5 Worst Fast-Food Breakfasts

I saw an article on Yahoo called 5 Worst Fast Food Breakfasts (and what you should order instead)

It's a nice idea of promoting healthier foods. My own concerns...

The focus is on calories, but is it the only issue?

What about the fact that cheap canola oil is probably being used? Loads of preservatives? MSG? Or that some of these breakfast foods could actually be made AT HOME??!(and probably taste better) But that would mean a whole different way of thinking and organizing life which could be veeery dangerous 'cuz breakfast foods means Subway, McDonald's, and don't you forget it!

G-d bless!

Astragalus

I am getting acquainted with a new friend: the herb Astragalus, a native plant in Asia. It is considered as one of the most important herbs in traditional Chinese Medicine.

One key function of this herb is to strengthen the immune system.

In Chinese Medicine, it is believed that the immunity or wei qi hovers around the nose, mouth, and skin. It protects against incoming germs and pathogens. When our immunity or wei qi is compromised, it become easier to catch a cold or just get sick.

Astragalus works by increasing the body's white blood cells (the body's defense system) and acts as a strong anti-biotic-stopping the activity of certain microbes.

The root of astragalus is boiled in water. Either 4 ounces of fresh astragalus root or 3 to 5 tablespoons of dried astragalus root. Boil for a few minutes, strain, and drink.

Autumn Air...

lungs breathe in autumn metal air
and exhale old summer heat, and
summer thoughts

Yellow, gold, and orange light up
my garden
and ushers a welcome change
as days shy short and nights extrovert

A restless wind from lower worlds hovers
to dry the yin and contract
and distract

Yet yesod springs from higher world opens
to water the day and lengthen
and strengthen

Onion yellow, ginger gold and pumpkin orange
light up
my garden

G-d bless!!!
Autumn is already on its way out the door...

Cabbage -n- Cru (ciferous) Awareness Month

Last month was Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Although, I know we are trying to raise awareness for women to be healthy, I believe the the idea of 'breast cancer awareness' is a play on psychology.

As if we are on the lookout to detect it via mammograms. I would much prefer to focus on the powerful foods around us that will not only keep breast cancer at bay but a whole host of other baddies.

so

Cruciferous vegetables include cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, bok choy KALE, radishes, and turnips.

Whoa, when was the last time I had broccoli? Brussel sprouts I refuse to touch b/c I just have a reaaally bad memory of my father forcing us to eat it. But I'm all for trying the other crucifers.

Did you know that "The American Institute for Cancer Research acknowledges that various elements of cruciferous vegetables stop cancer cell growth in breast tumors, uterine lining, lung, colon, liver, and cervix." Natural News

Also "it is known that women who eat a diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables are less likely to have fibroids. In addition, consuming plenty of dark green vegetables, such as kale and cabbage is thought to help reduce fibroid size." Women's Health

In an era where many are stricken with cancers, this is the time to reach for the medicines that Hashem has lovingly passed on to us!

Ok, crucifers are healthy, but how the hell we cook those hard things AND maintain their nutrients?? We'll find alot of recipes that look delicious but the veggies are cooked way too long. We can eat that for sure. But to also include semi-raw veggies is crucial

Check out: Steam-Vegetables

The link show ways to blanche and steam vegetables. This way the veggies are just slightly cooked. And it may be awkward at first to incorporate crucifers into the diet. After all, we are so used to eating something else. If we persevere, surely these life-giving veggies will become our good friends.
