Bereshit and Renewals

This Shabbat we go back to the beginning of the Torah to read parasha/ section Bereshit.

In Bereshit, the Torah records how G-d/ Hashem created the world. On the first day, He created darkness and light.

On the second day, He formed the Heavens. On the third, came land and sea.

On the fourth day, the sun, moon and stars are fixed into their positions.

On the fifth day, He created the fish, reptiles, and birds. And on the sixth day, He created human beings.

And on the Seventh day, He rested-which is Shabbat.

As the new Jewish year begins, we too can gather our G-d given creative powers to make new beginnings and renewals in our lives.

It can be anything, from job change, to learning something new, to taking a new art class, to cutting back on sugar, to ending a bad relationship, to dressing better, to trying new recipes, to socializing more, to ......

gosh darnit, there's just so much....

This new year, I'd like to nourish my kidneys and my liver.

I want to learn all about how them and how to strengthen them through herbs, food, exercise, acupuncture, acupressure, etc. These organs work hard to keep me well, and I want to honor that.

I'd also like to marry my 'soul mate.'

The imperfect one made perfectly for the imperfect me.

Happy new beginnings!

G-d bless!!!

Please pass a Sudanese

This is the second time it happened.

I don't know if it's because I was there or not. There's no way to ever be 100% sure.

I'm sitting at a Shabbos meal, and the topic of the Sudanese refugees and the potpourri of foreign   immigrants in southern Tel Aviv comes up.

Ok, think quick.

Is this a personal attack? Are they fishing for my opinion as a Black Jew? Or is it just noise to ensure everyone keeps talking and the dreaded-silence-at-the-table-doesn't-occur.

Somehow the topic got changed very quick, much to my relief.

But it got me thinking.

Perhaps there is a spiritual thirst for Eretz HaKodesh to have this sort of  potpourri. Maybe there is something deeper behind this.

Now, encouraging the said potpourri to follow the Seven Noahide Laws would be a step in the right direction...

G-d bless!

Kenya says no to GM Frankenstein Foods

Scientists are upset because Kenya has recently banned GM foods.

Kenyan officials stated that there was a "lack of sufficient information on the public health impact of such foods".

With a rat study published in Food and Chemical Toxicology showing rats developing cancer from eating GM corn, I completely understand Kenya and every single person who reject this man-made 'food.'

Scientists complained that the study was done incorrectly, from the experimental design to the statistical analysis.

Peter Kearns, head of food safety, nanosafety and chemical accidents for the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development in Paris states," Resolution of the debate over the safety of GM foods can come only from rigorous science clarifying the issues"

So if the issue needs clarification, why push these GM 'foods' down our throats? Down the throats of Africans?

The scientists are upset??

Let'em be upset.

G-d bless!
